US Post Service (USPS) says it has temporarily stopped accepting parcels from the mainland of China and Hong Kong.
The messages will not be affected by the comment, according to A statement on the company’s website.
Usps said the comment will be “until another notice” and did not make a reason for the decision.
This comes after US President Donald Trump imposed an additional 10 % tariff on all goods imported to the United States from China.
Trump’s executive order canceled an exemption that allowed commodities worth $ 800 (641 pounds) or less to enter the United States without having to pay certain duties or taxes.
The “De Minimis” tax vulnerability has faced the increasing in recent years, as Chinese e -commerce giants such as Shein and TEMU to reach millions of American customers.
President Trump is expected to speak to his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in the coming days.
Trade expert Dibora Elses said: “Trump’s Trump’s changes are particularly sharp if the goods are previously shipped via e -commerce directly from China to the United States,” Trade Expert Deborah Ells said.
Nearly half of all parcels entering the United States were sent under the minimum of China, according to a 2023 report issued by the American Congress Committee in China.
US officials have indicated that the large flow of parcels that enter the country through this exemption made it increasingly difficult to examine potentially illegal goods.
Usps did not immediately respond to the BBC news request for comment.
