Japanese finance ministry worker loses sensitive files

Local media says that an employee of the Japanese Finance Ministry on an outside night with colleagues has lost documents containing personal data of 187 people suspected of drug trafficking.

According to the employee, who was not named, nine cups of beer within a long night for five hours with co -workers in Yokohama on February 6.

Local media said he did not realize that he had lost his bag until after he left the train in another city, Sumida.

The Ministry of Finance said it was “very sorry” to the accident, which “has greatly undermined the confidence of the public,” according to NHK.

The ministry said that the bag contains documents that have the names and addresses of 187 suspect smugglers and beneficiaries of marijuana seeds.

It also included commercial laptops with the employee’s personal data.

The employee, who was appointed to the customs and tariff office, was not named in the NHK report.

BBC arrived at the Ministry of Finance to comment on Tuesday, a public holiday in Japan.

Alcohol has long been seen as social lubrication oils for thousands of years in Japan, where commercial deals and difficult issues are discussed about beer and similar bottles.

It is believed that drinking alcohol creates a more relaxed environment for such discussions.
