Croatia’s deputy prime minister resigned after footage emerged of him shooting randomly from a moving car.
In the video, Josep D’Abro can be seen in the passenger seat, talking, laughing and singing along to loud music, before picking up a gun and shooting through an open window in the dark.
Dabrow, who represents the far-right nationalist Homeland Movement, said the video was several years old and that he had fired training shots.
This is the latest incident to concern the Croatian coalition – formed in May 2024 – with the government describing Dabrow’s behavior as “inappropriate and irresponsible”.
In his resignation statement posted on Facebook, Dabrow, who was also serving as agriculture, forestry and fisheries minister, said he did not want to be a distraction to the government.
He said he had been subjected to “great pressure and threats” regarding the ministry’s reform plans.
The footage was posted earlier in the week.
Dabro’s party is participating in a coalition government with the center-right Croatian Democratic Union Party, led by Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic.
Last November, Health Minister Willy Bruce was sacked ahead of a corruption investigation.
On Monday, it was Zoran Milanovic Re-elected as president for a second termHe received nearly three-quarters of the votes ahead of his rival Dragan Primorac, who was supported by the Croatian Democratic Union Party.
After the result, Plenkovic said, “Milanovic is offering nothing” and refused to congratulate him. Chiefs in Croatia perform a largely ceremonial role.
