Postnord, the state -running human service, will end all delivery operations at the end of 2025, citing a 90 % decrease in messages sizes since the beginning of the century.

The decision ends 400 years from the company’s messages service. The 1500 mailboxes in Denmark will start disappearing since the beginning of June.

Transport Minister Thomas Danielsen sought to reassure the Danes, saying that messages can still be sent and received throughout the country. A company said it was ready to take over delivery.

Postal services wrestle with all parts of Europe with decreased sizes of letters. Deutsche Post in Germany said on Thursday that it was topped 8,000 jobs, while it was called a “socially responsible method”.

Deutsche Post has 187,000 employees, and employees said they feared more discounts.

Denmark had a 400 -year -old global post service until the end of 2023, but as digital mail services continued, the use of messages decreased dramatically.

Public services send communications through a digital post or other platforms, and Denmark Postnord says the messaging market is no longer profitable.

Message numbers have decreased since the beginning of the century from 1.4 billion to 110 million last year.

The decision will affect the elderly more. Although 95 % of Danish use post -digital service, 271,000 people are still dependent on physical mail.

Danish MP Bill Dragsted blamed the privatization for this step and complained that the move would harm people who live in remote areas.

Bustntord said that about 1500 of its workers would lose their jobs, among the workforce of 4,600.

The company said that it will convert its focus into peripheral delivery operations and that any postage stamps purchased this year or 2024 It can be returned for a limited period in 2026.

CEO Kim Pedersen said that the Danish became increasingly digital and that the decrease in the sizes of messages became so clear that it decreased by up to 30 % last year alone.

Postnord also works in Sweden. It is 40 % owned by Danish and 60 % owned by Swedish.
