World Health experts were expressing their dissatisfaction and concern over the dismantling of the United States for International Development (USAID), which distributes tens of billions of aid abroad every year.
The administration of President Donald Trump has announced huge discounts for the agency’s workforce and immediate suspension of almost all aid programs.
The United States government has announced a 90 -day freezing to finance aid projects while it was “review” to ensure its compatibility with President Trump’s priorities.
Trump is a long -term critic of spending abroad and said he should be distributed with his strategy “America first”.
The administration targeted the American Agency for International Development in particular, saying that the agency’s spending cannot be fully explained and some projects have been allocated as examples of how to waste taxpayer money, from its point of view.
Health experts, on the other hand, have warned against the spread of the disease, as well as delay in developing new vaccines and treatments as a result of discounts.
In addition to running many health programs directly, the US Agency for International Development funds other organizations to implement work on their behalf, and freezing has caused funding for confusion among these groups as well.
Exemptions of financing freezing have been released for some humanitarian programs, but this advertisement has already caused a widespread service disorder.
“It is difficult to reduce the impact of the decision to dismantle the United States Agency for International Development.
“People cannot reach the American Agency for International Development. It is heading towards lack of nutrition, hygiene, toilets and access to clean water, which has a tremendous effect on tuberculosis and diarrhea.
“Do not respect border diseases – this is more than the condition of climate change and a group movement of people. Infectious diseases will spread.”
Dr. Winjfield says tuberculosis kills 1.3 million people annually and affects 10 million people.
He said that four out of 10 people do not receive any care and thus can transfer the disease.
“Whether it is a research project or an influential clinic, we are at risk of more transmission.
“People will die directly due to the cuts in American financing.”
Not only are tuberculosis clinics at risk, but those who care for people with HIV.
A large part of this action is carried out by NGOs, NGOs, which provide antibiotic drugs that can suppress the amount of HIV in the blood to uncovered levels, helping to prevent their sexual transition to others.
Dr. Wingefield says if the treatment is disrupted, there may be serious problems.
“People with controlled HIV, if they miss Meds, the virus increases in their blood and there is a risk of infection transmission.
“There is a risk of retreating from all progress so far.”
Frontline Aids is an organization in the United Kingdom and South Africa working with 60 partners in 100 countries.
More than 20 of their partners said they are affected by the freezing of US foreign aid.
The organization told the BBC that communication about the freezing and subsequent concession caused “deep confusion”.
She said that many partners had to suspend HIV care, treatment, and the prevention of children, vulnerable adults and employees.
John Plasto, CEO of Frontline Aids, said: “The majority remains in a state of forgetfulness and this has a catastrophic impact on societies and institutions,” said John Plasto, CEO of Frontline Aids.
It stated that one organization in Uganda said it would move from HIV testing groups, tuberculosis and condoms in one month, which are often funded by the emergency plan for the head of the US AIDS.
In South Africa, a large number of HIV services stopped. Some provide care after pregnancy and emergency for women and girls who have been raped.
Professor Peter Taylor, Director of International Development Studies at the University of Sussex, said that one of the biggest freezing issues is the erosion of confidence.
“Stopping things suddenly undermines people’s confidence. People feel confused and angry,” he said.
“Under the basic trust is the real cost and is enlarged in many situations around the world.
“This is very harmful to the American global reputation.”
The United States Agency for International Development also provides funding for the decisive international clinical trials, which may be Professor Thomas Jackie, leader of the MRC and Cambridge University, to be weak.
“Unfortunately, there are a large number of experiments that are immediately affected by freezing the United States Agency for International Development – both in terms of conducting trials but also the experiences that are prepared and planned to start soon.”
He said he was “convinced” that the freezing of American financing “will harm the development of treatment”, to some extent that exciting new treatments have been delayed for years or even disposed of.
Professor Jackie said: “It is clear that the influence in areas such as malaria and HIV will be especially high as a noticeable part of research in these areas is funded through this road.”
Professor Rosa Friedman, professor of international law, global conflict and development at the University of Reading, said that the United States Agency for International Development provides up to 40 % of the world’s development aid, which cover health as well as education and economic development.
But health programs are the place where financing freezing is likely to feel – if it is long or permanent – largely in the coming months.
“This will partially return to the prevention of the additional vaccines that are distributed or funded by the United States Agency for International Development.
“This may mean that preventive diseases, which we thought were contained or even eliminated, could appear or exacerbate, such as cholera and malaria.”
Professor Friedman said this may lead to high health care problems all over the world.
“Given the globalized and interconnected nature of our planet, anxiety is that these diseases can spread quickly and far.”
