The police in Kenya fired tear gas to disperse the demonstrators who tried to occupy a recently donated church from President William Roto.
A gift for the winning service in the Nairobi suburb in Nairobi, which has an area of 20 million shillings (155,000 dollars; 120,000 pounds), has caused criticism from some Kenyan youth who struggle with the high cost of living.
Roto defended his donation and made a gift similar to another church in Elderit.
Last year, both Kenya Catholic and English leaders rejected donations, on the pretext that there is a need to protect the church from using it for political purposes.
Many people were arrested during the clashes, which witnessed the protesters trying to enter the church and light fires and use rocks to prevent nearby roads.
But the church service provided safely to worshipers, the local media report.
Bishop Edward Moay said that the unveiled people have fill in the “thugs” to disable the church service, according to the STAR website reports.
Roto, an Evangelist Christian, defended the donation, saying he was an attempt to address the country’s moral decomposition.
“You must know Kenya, God, in order to be ashamed of the people who tell us that we cannot link the church.”
The Kenyans have been angry at a series of tax increases that were entered since the election of Roto in 2022.
He says they need to pay the huge debts he inherited from the previous government, but many Kenyans argue that he must first deal with public waste and corruption.
Last year, a wave of protests in the country was forced Roto to withdraw its funding bill, which contains a series of tax height.
