Man who burned Quran ‘shot dead in Sweden’

A man ignited violent protests after the burning of the Qur’an was killed in Sweden, according to local media reports.

It was reported that Silwan Momka, 38, was killed in a flat in Soderley, Stockholm, on Wednesday evening.

The turmoil erupted after Mr. Momika set fire to a copy of the Bible of Islam outside the Stockholm Central Mosque in 2023.

Stockholm police said in a statement that five people were arrested after a man was killed in his forties during the night.

Local media reported that Mr. Momika was installed on social media soon.

Mr. Momica, an Iraqi who lives in Sweden, was charged in August alongside each other with “excitement against an ethnic group” on four occasions in the summer of 2023.

The Stockholm Provincial Court said that the ruling, which was delivered on Thursday, was postponed after it was confirmed that one of the defendants had died.

Mr. Momica carried out a series of anti -Islam protests, which angered in many Islamic majority countries.

The disturbances occurred in the Swedish embassy in Baghdad twice, while the Swedish ambassador was expelled from the city in a diplomatic rank.

The Swedish government gave Mr. Momica permission to the protest in which the Bible burned, He said that it was according to the laws of freedom of expression.

She later pledged to explore the legal means to cancel the protests involved in burning texts in certain circumstances.
