Nigerian pupils die in Kauran Namoda

At least 17 children died in a fire in an Islamic school in northern Nigeria.

Many other students were injured and rushed to the health centers in the town of Koran Namoda, Zamvara State, for treatment.

The fire was believed to have erupted in a nearby house on Tuesday evening and spread to school while the children, who believed they were teenagers, were sleeping.

Local authorities and emergency respondents were sent to the scene, but the fire already resulted in major victims.

I told an eyewitness Yahaia what BBC Hausa that the school site made it difficult for those trying to stop the fire.

“Even if the firefighters had arrived on time, reaching the house was difficult because of the narrow road leading to the house,” he said.

Local official Mounir Hydara said that other Islamic schools will be examined to ensure that they are not a fire risk.

“We will take measures to prevent another type of occurrence,” he said.

The father of one of the victims BBC Husa told that he was destroyed, but his belief in God was comfortable at this time.
