Foreign Minister Marco Rubio said that US President Donald Trump’s proposal to resettle the residents of Gaza is temporary only.
Trump’s proposal follows that the United States can “take” Gaza and resettled about two million Palestinians who live there – an idea extracted from the United Nations, human rights groups and Arab leaders.
White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitte explained Trump’s comments, saying that the United States was not planning to put “shoes on the ground” in the region.
Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said that Ghazan “should be allowed to enjoy freedom of exit and immigration,” but gave few details about how this is done.
On a trip to Guatemala, Marco Rubio said that Trump’s proposal was not “hostile”, but a “generous step”, showing “the United States’s willingness to become responsible for rebuilding that region.”
He said that the idea is that Ghazan to leave the region for a “temporary” period while the debris and reconstruction were cleared.
Under international law, attempts to transport population by force from the occupied territories are prohibited.
White House spokeswoman Caroline Levit told reporters on Wednesday that the president is committed to rebuilding Gaza and “temporarily” transporting its residents during the operation.
Trump said on Tuesday that the displacement would be permanent.
Levitte also said that the president had not committed to placing “shoes on the ground” in the region, but he refused to exclude the use of American forces there.
Her comments come after Trump proposed control of the Gaza Strip and its redevelopment to “Riviera for the Middle East”.
Trump said on Tuesday during a A joint press conference With Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who called the idea “deserves attention.”
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz also praised Trump’s proposal, adding that Jizan should be allowed to “enjoy the freedom of exit and migration” through the land, the sea, or the air.
He said that countries like Spain, Ireland and Norway – critics of the war – “are legally obligated to allow every resident of Ghazan to enter their lands.”
He did not explain how the suggestion – or whether Ghazan is able to return after the reconstruction.
The Foreign Minister of Spain rejected the proposal.
