Remains of Canadian serial killer’s victim found in landfill

Police say that the remains of an indigenous woman were killed by a serial killer who was found after the landfill in the Canadian province of Manitoba.

Officials said the remains of Morgan Harris were recovered at the Green Bari Restaurant, north of Winbeig. The authorities were looking for Harris, 39, and Marsids Miran, 26, both from Long Plain First Nation. Police say two groups of remains have been found.

Harris and Miran were among the four indigenous women killed in 2022 by the convicted killer Jeremy Skipki, who threw their bodies in different burials for three months.

The search for the Green Waste Plant began late last year after a long pressure campaign by indigenous leaders.

“The discovery of her mother’s remains was” a very sweet moment and bitter. “

“Please keep our families in your hearts tonight and every day to move forward as we trust in this process,” the post said.

The police initially refused to search for the landfill, and a federal government study concluded that the research may take three years and cost up to 184 million Canadian dollars (100 million pounds; 128 million dollars), with workers exposed to dangerous chemicals.

Manitoba eventually pledged a Canadian $ 20 million to search for remains – the funds matching the federal government.

Skepaki was convicted last year with the killing of Harris and Miran, as well as the killing of a third woman, Rebecca Control, 24, from Ashik-Kype Speby, and a woman still has the name of Pavalo.

Their murders were not discovered for several months until a man was looking for a scrap of metal in a box outside the Skibicki apartment partial human residue, which was determined as belonging to Mrs. Contowis.

Canada has long faced a crisis of missing women and girls lost and killed. According to RCMP, indigenous women make up 10 % of the residents of Canada’s missing women and 16 % of female murders. Native women make up about 4 % of the female population in Canada.
