US President Donald Trump has said he had “great respect” to Ukrainian President Folodimir Zelinski, on the eve of their conversations at the White House.
In response to a question from the BBC if he would apologize for his recent description as a “dictator”, he said he could not believe he said this. Zelensky also called “very brave”.
Trump was talking after talks with UK Prime Minister Sir Kerr Starmer on ending the war between Ukraine and Russia.
He expected “a very good meeting” with Zelinski on Friday, saying that the efforts to achieve peace were “moving very quickly.”
This week’s meetings come after the Trump administration shocked its Western partners by holding the first high -level American talks with Moscow since Russia invaded Ukraine slightly more than three years ago.
It seems that the new president of America blames Zelinski for the war and reduced him for not starting peace talks earlier.
“I was there for three years,” he said last Tuesday. “You should have ended … You should never start it. You could have a deal.”
But this Thursday, speaking after the Sir Kerr interview, Trump told the reporters asking about his upcoming talks with Zelinski: “I think we will hold a good meeting tomorrow morning. We will really do a good job.”
In response to a question from Chris Masson from the BBC if he still believes that Zelinski was a “dictator”, he answered: “Did you say that? I cannot believe that I said that.”
Zelensky hopes to win a kind of security guarantee for his country, which would support any peace deal that may be negotiated.
When asked about these on Thursday, Trump said only that he was “open to many things” but he wanted to obtain Russia and Ukraine to agree on a deal before deciding what measures could be set for its application.
On his Friday visit, Zelensky is expected to sign a deal that allows the United States to access rare ground mineral resources in Ukraine.
Trump has suggested that the presence of US mining fears in Ukraine would be a deterrent against future Russian attacks on Ukraine.
“It is a successor, you can say,” said on Thursday. “I don’t think anyone will play around him if we are there with a lot of workers and to get to know the rare land and other things that we need for our country.”
The British Prime Minister said earlier that the United Kingdom was ready to send forces to Ukraine after the war as part of the peacekeeping force, but only if the United States, the main member of NATO, presented the “background”.
In response to a question about whether the United States will help the British peacekeepers if they were attacked by Russia, Trump said: “The British have incredible soldiers, an incredible army and can take care of themselves. But if they need help, I will always be with the British, well?”
Article 5 of NATO says that NATO members will reach an ally to be attacked.
Sir Kerr, who praised “Trump’s personal commitment to bring peace” in Ukraine, said that the United Kingdom “is ready to put shoes on the ground and planes in the air to support the deal.”
“We are now focusing on setting a permanent end of the barbaric war in Ukraine,” he said.
But he added that a peace deal should not be “equivalent to the aggressor or that gives encouragement to regimes like Iran.”
When asked if Vladimir Putin is trustworthy, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom said that his views on the Russian president were known.
In response to a question, why did he seem to trust in Putin and Mr. Ker, he did not do it. Trump said: “I know many people who do not say any opportunity to deceive you, and they are the worst people in the world.
“I know others that you will guarantee that they will deceive you, and you know what, they are 100 % honorable, so you never know what you get.”
“The BBC News” told BBC News that Putin and Russia did not want peace.
“For any peace agreement to work, it needs Europeans and Ukrainians on board.”
Stopping in the Irish Republic on Thursday on his way to the United States, Zelensky met with Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) Micheál Martin at Shannon Airport.
“We discussed the steps to end the war in peace guaranteed for Ukraine and the entire Europe,” he said later.
In the wake of the overthrow of the pro -Russian President of Ukraine in 2014, Moscow included the Black Crimea Peninsula and supported the separatists supporting Russia in bloody fighting in eastern Ukraine.
The conflict exploded in a comprehensive war when Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of people, most of them soldiers, were killed or wounded, and millions of Ukrainian civilians fled as refugees.
In addition to the Crimea, Russia is now occupying parts of four other regions – Donetsk, Luhanssk, Zaburisvia and Khairsson.
On Thursday, the Kremlin warned that Russia would not make any regional concessions to Ukraine as part of a peace agreement.
“All regions that have become topics for the Russian Federation … an integral part of our country, Russia,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters. “This is an indisputable fact at all, and a non -negotiable fact.”
Separately, Russian and American officials met in Istanbul, Turkey He talks about rebuilding diplomatic relations.
The two nuclear gloves expelled the embassy employees to each other when Trump’s ancestor, Joe Biden, was in the White House.
