UN suspends movement in Houthi-held areas after staff detained

The United Nations (the United Nations) says it has suspended all the movement in the Yemeni -controlled Yemeni regions after the arrest of a number of United Nations members by the armed group in the capital, SANA.

The United Nations said it was actively involved with senior Houthi officials to try to secure the issuance of all its detainees. There has been no official statement from the Houthis yet.

This is not the first time that the group has held the United Nations workers – as a number of employees were held last year. The Houthis have also detained about 20 Yemeni employees at the American embassy over the past three years.

Human rights groups also accuse their kidnapping, torture, and arbitrary detention hundreds of civilians.

The Houthis, backed by the Iranians, have been fighting a Saudi -led alliance in Yemen for nearly a decade. The conflict, which erupted after the Houthis were forced to leave the Yemeni government at the time, was largely on a dead end over the past two years.

But the Houthis have caught a renewed international interest in targeting ships in the Red Sea and firing rockets towards Israel in the past fifteen months, which they say support Hamas and the Palestinians.

Their actions caused retaliatory strikes on the Houthi positions in Yemen from the United States, Israel and the United Kingdom.

Since the ceasefire began in Gaza, the Houthis said they would attack their charging and stop shooting on Israel if it continues with the armistice.

However, one of the first works of President Trump to take office was the Houthi command It was placed on the list of American foreign terrorist organizations.

Despite all this, the group still controls large areas of Yemen.

The country was the poorest in the Middle East before the start of the war in 2015.

UN agencies provide a vital life artery for millions of Yemenis with their food and medical aid.

However, they faced problems regularly in reaching people in remote areas outside the major cities and cities, where the Houthi officials regularly informed that they hindered the provision of humanitarian assistance in the areas they control.
