Venezuela edited six American detainees after talks in Caracas between President Nicolas Maduro and a Trump administration official.
Men’s release on social media has been announced by Donald Trump and his private envoy, Richard Greenil.
Greenil – who posted on the Internet a picture of the six on his plane – said they had spoken by phone to President Trump to thank him.
Earlier, the White House called for Venezuela to launch the “hostage of the United States” – in addition to agreeing to receive Venezuelan criminals who were deported by the United States – or facing the consequences.
Greenil did not mention the six men, who were seen wearing light blue clothes used by the Venezuelan prison system.
“We are heading home with these six American citizens,” they only spoke to @realdonaldtrump and they could not stop thanks. “
Trump praised this step in a separate publication, saying that Greenil was attending “six hostages to the house from Venezuela.”
Venezuelan government media said that the discussions with President Trump’s envoy were respected.
In January, Caracas announced the seizure of a group of “mercenaries” who included American citizens.
Maduro was sworn in last month for a third term as Venezuelan President, six months after the disputed elections, which the opposition and the international community say lost.
The official results of the July 2024 elections were widely rejected by the international community, including the United States.
Caroline Levitt, the White House journalist, Caroline Levitt, said earlier that Greenil’s visit did not mean recognizing us in Maduro as a legitimate leader of Venezuela.
