President Donald Trump’s decision to stop all aid in the United States to Ukraine is a bitter blow – not only for Kev but also the European allies who were pressuring the American administration to continue its support.
This is not the first time that the United States has made military comments. Republicans in the Congress prevented the largest segment of the chairman Joe Biden for Ukraine’s military assistance in the summer of 2023.
After that, Ukraine managed to get rid of current ammunition stocks with the help of Europe.
Congress recently agreed to the 60 billion pounds of aid package in the spring of 2024. It was only in time – Ukraine was fighting to repel the renewed Russian attack in Kharkiv. The arrival of late American weapons helped at the heart of the tide.
As in 2024, this may be months before the feeling of US aid – at least in terms of ammunition and devices. European countries slowly raised their production of artillery shells. In general, Europe now provides Ukraine 60 percent of its assistance – more than the United States.
However, American military support is still vital to Ukraine. A Western official recently described it as “generous” in terms of weapons.
Ukraine’s ability to protect its members and cities relied heavily on the advanced American air defense systems – such as Patriot and Nasam batteries – were jointly developed with Norway.
The United States gave Ukraine the ability to carry out long -range strikes – with HIMARS and ATACM missiles. The United States has limited its use in Russia, but it is still vital to hitting high -value goals within the occupied areas.
It is not just quality, but the quantity as well. As the most powerful army in the world, it has been able to send hundreds of surplus Hamafi and armored vehicles – numbers that cannot match the smaller European army.
The absence of some of this aid may take time to filter to the front lines. But there may be an immediate effective effect, not the least in terms of intelligence sharing.
No country can match the United States in terms of space -based monitoring and intelligence and communications. It is not only provided by the US military, but also commercial companies.
Take the satellite network from Elon Musk. Each Ukrainian situation I visited on the confrontation line has a stars dish.
It is used to transfer the latest information about the battlefield. It was necessary to coordinate artillery and drones.
In the past, the Pentagon admitted that he funded this artery. Given that Elon Musk is a major figure in the American administration, it seems unlikely to be ready to participate in the bill. He is also a harsh critic of Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky.
Will the United States prevent European countries from sending its manufacture equipment to Ukraine? When Europe wanted to provide the United States-manufactured F-16 aircraft to Ukraine, it was first to obtain Washington’s approval.
Then what about the maintenance of the equipment provided by the United States? The United States is also training Ukrainian forces and then helps them maintain the equipment offered by the United States.
Biden raised the restrictions imposed on American contractors working in Ukraine at the end of his term. F-16 aircraft in particular need engineers and spare parts to continue running.
Trump’s decision to stop aid may seem to many in Ukraine and abroad, creative. But it is clear that there is a political goal to force them at the negotiating table soon.
Hope for European allies is that it will be just a stop. Without supporting the United States, Ukraine will find a more harsh struggle for survival.
